At The Unknown India, we are building an archive of India’s lesser-known histories, cultures, traditions, ecological realities, and lived experiences. Hence, we document narratives that are rarely seen in our textbooks, travel brochures, or mainstream conversations.

Which categories do we prefer?
We welcome original articles in areas such as:
- Forgotten or overlooked histories.
- Vanishing traditions and rituals.
- Tribal and indigenous communities.
- Lesser-known heritage sites.
- Cultural or spiritual practices.
- Ecological and environmental stories.
- Local legends examined with historical depth.
- Untold freedom stories or regional movements.
If you have something valuable to offer that’s not getting covered under the above headings, feel free to send and we will figure it out together!
What do we look for in the articles?
Every article should offer depth, insight, and perspective.
They should be:
- Research-backed but readable.
- Emotionally engaging without sensationalism.
- Respectful toward communities and belief systems.
- Clear in distinguishing between fact and folklore, and
- Conversational and easy to understand.
If your article references historical claims, please include sources.
If you are sharing oral traditions, please indicate the same clearly.
What does a contributor get?
If selected for publication:
- You will receive full author credit.
- Your bio will appear alongside the article.
- Select pieces may be featured on our social media platforms.
- Certain stories may be adapted into YouTube episodes (with credit).
At this stage, contributions are unpaid. We are, however, open to long-term collaborations as the platform grows.
What are the related rights & permissions?
By submitting your article, you confirm that:
- The work is original.
- You hold the rights to all submitted content.
- You grant The Unknown India first digital publishing rights.
- The editorial team may make minor edits for clarity and formatting.
What are the submission guidelines?
- Word count: Between 8,00 to 2,500 words.
- Work must be in English, original, and unpublished.
- Plagiarism is strictly not accepted.
- Images must be original or properly credited.
We review all submissions carefully and may suggest edits to include keywords or to ensure alignment with our editorial standards.
