Do you think you really know India?

If you do, we bet you’ve barely scratched the surface!
India is deeper and more layered than textbooks and guidebooks ever reveal. At The Unknown India, we believe our country is a treasure trove of intriguing hidden places, astonishing diversity, and stories that stretch far beyond imagination.
The idea for The Unknown India was born from a simple question: What lies beyond everything we think we know about India? What secrets hide in a haunted colonial hotel, a forgotten fort by a silent river, ancient tribal traditions, or even the layers beneath our widely known history?

What We Do

Every corner of India has a story waiting to be told. We hunt for the ones that deserve to be heard—whether you're seeking hidden gems in India, unknown facts about India, or fresh inspiration from India's past.

We cover interesting topics like:

  • Mystery and History
  • Forgotten forts and geological wonders
  • Unsung heroes and defenders
  • Cultures, Rituals & legends
  • Untold stories
  • Offbeat places in India

Every article and video is an invitation to look closer at the India that refuses to be fully explained.

Who We Are

The Unknown India was founded by Nitin Ahlawat, starting as late-night research and passionate conversations that grew into something bigger. Today, we’re a dedicated team of curious explorers—led by Managing Editor Keerti Ahlawat and powered by a shared love for what, when and why!

We’re based in the hills (Dehradun says hello!), but our stories take us from Himalayan hamlets to coastal frontiers, silent borders to forgotten bazaars.

What We’re Becoming

We’re building The Unknown India into a growing digital heritage storytelling platform where:

  • Stories are carefully researched
  • Voices are preserved
  • Cultures are documented
  • And curiosity is celebrated

Because some stories vanish if no one tells them.
